Don't let the term "Amateur" fool you, Indian River County's Amateur Radio Emergency Service's (IRCARES) is a group of highly trained and dedicated volunteers. Training includes the FEMA IS-100, 200, 700, 800 courses, and the ARRL Emergency Communications Course Level 1. Many of our members have taken additional training from FEMA, ARRL, Red Cross, and other nationally recognized agencies. Our members include Retired Military, Retired Police Officers and Sheriff Deputies, and other highly qualified volunteers.
IRCARES falls under the command of the county's Emergency Management Division. We are also an active member in the county's VOAD (Volunteer Organizations Active in Disasters) group.
We work directly with the North Treasure Coast Chapter of the American Red Cross including providing primary communications to shelters and many of our members are also registered Red Cross DHSR Volunteers.
